RECOGNITION / 20 August 2026

Best Director of the YearA Turning Point Behind the Camera

A listed recognition — Best Director of the Year 2020, Netët e Klipit Shqiptar — marks the point where my practice turned from stills toward motion. What's confirmed, and what's still being verified.

Some lines in a professional record are settled facts. Others are open questions I'm still working to close. This is one of the second kind, and I'd rather say so plainly than let it sit unexamined: my own professional listing records “Best Director of the Year 2020 — Netët e Klipit Shqiptar.” I believe it. I haven't yet been able to point to it.

What I can say for certain

2020 is a real hinge point in the work, independent of any award. It's roughly when directing stopped being an occasional extension of photography and became a discipline of its own — a shift from composing a single frame to composing a sequence of them, with performance, sound and edit rhythm added to the variables I was already managing as a photographer.

Being honest about the sourcing

Right now, the reference to this recognition exists in one place I control: my own professional profile. I have not yet located an official winners' archive, a certificate, a ceremony photograph, or a third-party announcement that independently confirms it. That gap matters to me more than the recognition itself would. Until I close it, I'm not calling myself an “award-winning director” on this site — I'm describing a listed, self-reported credential, and I'll update this entry the moment I have something that stands on its own.

Why the pivot mattered more than the trophy

Whatever the outcome of that verification, the more interesting fact is what came after: a photographer's instinct — for light, for a face, for a frame worth holding — carried into a director's job, where the frame has to move and still mean something. That transition is the real subject of this entry. The award, confirmed or not, is just the year it happened to be written down.

Consider this a working entry rather than a finished claim. If documentation of Netët e Klipit Shqiptar 2020 surfaces — a program, a photograph, a winners' list — this piece will be rewritten the day it does.
